Dear Parents,
Welcome to the 2017/2018 school year. This year your child will be taking two state tests that will be administered in the Spring:
- PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers)
- WIDA (World-class Instructional Design and Assessment)
The WIDA assesses English language proficiency. It helps students and families understand students’ current level of English language proficiency. It also serves as one of multiple measures used to determine whether students are prepared to exit the English language support program. Moreover, it generates information that assists in determining whether ELLs have attained the language proficiency needed to participate meaningfully in content area classrooms without program support as well as provides teachers with information they can subsequently use to enhance instruction and learning in programs for their English language learners.
The PARCC assesses students' current performance, and pointing the way to what students need to learn to be ready for the next grade level and, by high school graduation, for college and/or a career. It is also designed to give schools and teachers more information to improve instruction. Moreover, PARCC is designed to let parents know how their child is progressing academically.
If you want to discuss the modifications that are afforded to your child please contact me with any questions or concerns. You will receive further information regarding dates, scheduling and certain modifications as the year continues.
Thank you,
Melissa Jackson
