Parent Handbook

Introduction


The Haworth School District Handbook/ Calendar has been sent to all community members to give them information about the Haworth School. Additional material will be sent home from time to to in Board Newsletters or posted at Borough Hall and the Public Library as well as online on the website. We will endeavor to provide complete information concerning special events and changes in policies/regulations.

Your Board of Education, administration and all staff members are eager to provide a high standard of education for children from kindergarten through the eighth grade. You are invited to attend Board meetings, assembly programs, visit the school and consult with the Superintendent/ Principal, Assistant Principal and teachers concerning the school program. Please arrange your visits or conferences through the school office so as not to interrupt the regular work of the classroom.

The Mission of the Haworth School District

The Mission of the Haworth School District is to prepare our students through a flexible education system which begins their development into well-rounded caring adults able to contribute to an ever-changing, competitive global society.

To accomplish this the Board, in active collaboration with the community and using a clear system of accountability, will provide the tools to ensure that our students and staff:

1. Shall work cooperatively in a safe, supportive and nurturing learning environment;
2. Practice good citizenship through a better understanding of the needs of society and self by participating in public service and fostering respect for themselves and others;
3. Are able to apply problem-solving strategies learned through written, oral, technological and experiential applications in and out of the classroom;
4. Keep abreast of the new technology and expanding knowledge base;
5. Have the necessary resources, which shall be effectively and efficiently utilized.

Haworth Board of Education Educational Beliefs


WE BELIEVE IN:
- A learning environment which provides a core of knowledge using teaching methodologies such as:
-interdisciplinary learning
-collaborative learning
-problem-solving
-critical thinking and reasoning
-effective communications
-the importance of nurturing self-esteem and effective interpersonal skills and the value of community service;
-a strong sense of common purpose and communications among parents, citizens, Board, administration, staff and students;
-the importance of a value system promulgated in the home and augmented in school;
-providing an updated school facility, which will enable us to educate students for the 21st century.
